Hip arthroscopy in Sarasota: a real alternative to hip replacement

Our Approach

How we treat hip pain without rushing you toward a replacement

Not every painful hip is a worn-out hip. In active adults the cause is often a labral tear, impingement, or a tendon injury, and those are problems Dr. Mundy treats through a few small incisions while keeping your natural joint. Every visit starts with a real exam and a real conversation about what you want to get back to, whether that is pickleball three mornings a week or simply walking without thinking about your hip. We start conservative when conservative makes sense, use arthroscopy and preservation techniques when they offer the best long-term result, and tell you plainly if a hip replacement is the right answer. We would rather point you to the right surgeon than do the wrong surgery.

5 Stars, all categories, bar none. Dr. Mundy and his team, especially Marlene, just wow. A surgeon who cuts last, who maintains as much of your native moving parts as possible before moving on to cut and replace, is amazing in itself. Their kindness, their willingness to go above and beyond, and their patience explaining something a third or fourth time for us non-medical folk is simply incredible. I cannot say enough wonderful things.

Why Choose Us

What makes hip care at Synergy One different

Alternatives to Hip Replacement

Labral repair, impingement correction, and joint preservation give active adults options that keep their own hip. Few surgeons in the Sarasota area focus on this work. Dr. Mundy does.

Fellowship-Trained at Andrews

Dr. Mundy completed his sports medicine fellowship at Andrews Sports Medicine in Birmingham under Dr. James Andrews, caring for college, MLB, NFL, and NBA athletes along the way.

You See the Surgeon, Every Time

There are no physician assistants or nurse practitioners here. Your exam, your plan, and your follow-ups are with Dr. Mundy, one on one.

Fast Access, Fair Pricing

Same-day and next-day appointments for urgent evaluations. Most major plans accepted, including Medicaid, Ambetter, and Oscar, plus a $200 all-inclusive self-pay visit that is among the fairest in the area.

Conditions We Treat

Hip conditions we treat with arthroscopy and preservation

Hip Labral Tears

Tears in the ring of cartilage that seals your hip socket, a common source of catching, clicking, and deep groin pain in active adults.

Hip Impingement (FAI)

Extra bone on the ball or socket that pinches with motion and damages the labrum over time. Correcting the shape protects the joint.

Gluteus Medius & Hip Abductor Tears

The "rotator cuff of the hip." Endoscopic repair addresses the tendon through small incisions instead of an open procedure.

Hip Pain in Athletes & Active Adults

Runners, golfers, pickleball players, and weekend athletes with hip or groin pain that is not going away on its own.

Early Hip Arthritis

Evaluation, injections, and conservative care aimed at keeping you active and preserving the joint you have.

Hip Cartilage Injuries

Cartilage restoration and preservation techniques for damage inside the joint, part of our joint-preservation approach.

Hip Injuries & Trauma

Prompt evaluation and treatment for acute hip injuries, including fracture care.

Hip Pain Without a Clear Answer

If your hip still hurts after rest, therapy, or a first opinion, a sports medicine hip specialist can take a closer look.

Our Services

Hip arthroscopy and preservation procedures we offer

Hip Arthroscopy

Minimally invasive hip surgery through a few small incisions, using a camera and specialized instruments to treat problems inside the joint.

Labral Repair

Arthroscopic repair of a torn labrum to help restore the stability and seal of the hip joint.

FAI (Impingement) Correction

Reshaping the bone that pinches so the hip moves freely and the labrum is protected.

Endoscopic Gluteus Medius Repair

Minimally invasive repair of the hip abductor tendons, without the larger open incision.

Non-Surgical Hip Care

Thorough evaluation, injections, and conservative treatment for hip arthritis and hip pain, with surgery reserved for when it is the best option.

Joint Preservation & Orthobiologics

Cartilage restoration and FDA-approved, autologous orthobiologics such as PRP, used as part of a plan to delay or avoid joint replacement where possible.

Dr. Mundy and his team Marlene and Emily are amazing. It is the only medical practice I have used that actually answers the phone promptly, has excellent follow through, and is warm and professional, and both times there was no wait at all between arriving and seeing Dr. Mundy. He is thorough, the exam did not feel rushed, and I really liked his approach and treatment plan. Highly recommended.

Meet Your Doctor

Dr. Andrew Mundy, MD

Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon, Sports Medicine Specialist

Dr. Mundy trained in orthopedic surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, then completed his sports medicine fellowship at Andrews Sports Medicine and the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama, under Dr. James Andrews. FAQ

Hip arthroscopy questions, answered

Will I need a hip replacement?

Many active adults with hip pain do not. Labral tears, impingement, and tendon injuries can often be treated with arthroscopy and preservation techniques that keep your natural joint. If a replacement truly is the right answer, Dr. Mundy will tell you and connect you with a surgeon he trusts for that procedure.

Labral tears, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), certain cartilage injuries, and gluteus medius or hip abductor tears, among other problems inside and around the hip joint. Your exam and imaging determine whether it is the right option for you.

Same-day and next-day appointments are often available for urgent evaluations, and online scheduling is open around the clock. Urgent slots are limited and not guaranteed, so call us and we will do our best. We do not offer walk-in or weekend visits.

We accept most major commercial plans, Medicaid, Ambetter, and Oscar Health. If we are out of network with your plan, call us: for many carriers we match or closely match in-network rates. Self-pay visits are $200 all-inclusive with no add-on fees, among the fairest rates in the area.

In most cases, no. You can book directly with us. A few insurance plans require one, and our team will help you sort that out before your visit.

Everything from the starting process was professional, easy, and accommodating. When you call their office they answer the phone. You get a live person, and they are kind, courteous, and accommodating.

Hip preservation close to home

Synergy One Orthopedics provides hip arthroscopy and hip preservation care for active people across Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch, and the surrounding area from one location at 2201 Cantu Ct, Suite 116. Dr. Mundy is one of the few surgeons in the region focused on this work, and patients come to him for the problems that get written off as “just arthritis”: the labral tear that catches on the stairs, the impingement that ends a run early, the abductor tear that makes every step ache. Whether you need a same-day evaluation for a new injury or a closer look at a hip that has hurt for years, you will be seen by the surgeon, not handed off.

Advanced hip surgery with a personal approach

From arthroscopic labral repair and impingement correction to endoscopic gluteus medius repair and cartilage restoration, Dr. Mundy brings fellowship-level sports medicine training to a practice small enough to know you by name. He stays current with evidence-based, FDA-approved techniques and uses them toward a single goal: preserve the hip you have for as long as that is the right choice. Every plan is built around your sport, your schedule, and the life you want back.
